Planning Your Trip

Flights/Airport

Airlines service the Los Cabos International airport. Los Cabos airport is located 13 km (8 miles) north of San Jose del Cabo and 48 km (29 miles northeast of Cabo San Lucas).

All the major airlines fly from the USA o& Canada:
Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Air Canada, Delta, Southwest, United

You will need your passport and the airlines won’t let you on without it. You will need it to get through customs upon arrival in Mexico and possibly for a few others things once outside the airport. Once settled in, there is no real need to carry it around. Leave it safely at the condo. If you feel you want it with you make a copy.

Upon arrival at the airport you will go through customs. Forms that need to be filled out will be given out on the plane. Depending on the day and time of year the customs lines can be very quick or quite long. Once through customs pick up luggage, and head out to the exit. One form an agent will take and have you press a button. If its green you are good to go, if its red they may do an extra search of your luggage. Once through here there are a set of doors to get you to the outside. Unfortunately those doors lead to an area with many timeshare sales people or others trying to get your attention and sell you something. Just walk through like you know where you are going, all exit doors lead to the same place, the outside where transportation will be waiting.

Transportation

There are a lot of transportation options to get to Cabo San Lucas from the airport. There are a number of car rentals agencies around. Some well known brands, however they are all independent, locally owned franchises and you don’t pay what you see on the website. They also try and get you on insurance which is always a big topic.
Here are a few we recommend with everything you need in the quoted price:

  • Cactus Car Rentals : www.cactuscar.com
Another great company to work with. Newer cars and very friendly.
    Email: reserve@cactuscar.com

  • AMC Rent A Car : www.amcrentacar.com
Check out rates and cars online then
    WhatsApp Angel @ +52 624 243 4147

If renting a car is not what you would like to do there are options for taxis or shared transportation vans however they can be expensive. If you don’t want to rent a car then after booking your stay please message the Airbnb Host about being picked up. The rates are much better, you’ll get a whole lot of information about the area on the drive and also a stop at the grocery / liquor stores.

Groceries / Liquor

There are a few main places that are best for groceries. Chedraui which is in San Jose Del Cabo on the way to Cabo San Lucas. These stores are around but this one is the nicest of them all. Here they have everything for groceries, home items, toiletries and beer and liquor. Don’t forget to stop by the food court area and pick up a glass of wine from their wine dispenser while shopping.

Closer to downtown Cabo San Lucas there is a Wal-mart and a large liquor store with everything you could want. This Wal-mart has a large grocery store, decent amount of beer and liquor and just like all Wal-marts everything else you could possibly need.

Around town there are many convenience stores called OXXO which sell beer, water and snacks. There are two on the road to the condo. One at the bottom of the hill and one at the top. Note: The one at the top doesn’t sell beer.

Money

The majority of shops, restaurants and excursions take credit cards, debit cards, US Dollars and Mexican Pesos. Some restaurants are cash only and they usually state that on the menu or a sign when you are inside. There are ATMS all over that dispense US dollars and some giving you pesos. The downside to some of the ATMs is that their fees to take out money can be high (10%). Bring some cash with you from the states. There are local banks in the Cabo San Lucas area if you wish to exchange for Pesos. Better rates than the airport. At the time of your stay look up the current exchange rate to familiarize peso prices to US dollars. Usually using 20 pesos to the dollar is easy math and gets you close. $1000 Pesos = $50 USD.
